ORTHODONTICS
Dr. George Crozat in New Orleans and Dr. Albert Wiebrecht in Milwaukee developed one of the first “holistic philosophies” in dentistry, especially in orthodontics. Based on their thinking the American Academy of Gnathologic Orthopedics formulated a systematic approach to the treatment of malocclusion without the need to extract healthy teeth to gain space in the arch.
To achieve this end, removable wire appliances were developed by Dr. Crozat, refined and modified by others, and today they are highly sophisticated, elegant orthopedic appliances, which develop the dental arches to gain space for all the teeth. These appliances are almost invisible and removable and are used for children and adults. Today arch development has been recognized as the proper approach for the treatment of overcrowding.
